Roast Red pork is a classic Asian dish often served in thin slices with a gravy or with noodles. I thought I would make a twist on this and turn it into a sandwich. I originally thought about making it a true burger but thought that the seasoning might be to overpowering in a minced Patty so went with a steak instead.
Take a pork loin steak. I prefer to buy a pork loin joint and then cut the thickness I want. You could get a butcher to do this for you.
Take your steaks and in a large bowl add the seasoning and leave to marinate for a few hours or over night.
You can use a per-made mix or make your own mix.
- 2tbs soy sauce
- 2tbs brown sugar
- 1tsp Chinese 5 spice
- 2tsp grated ginger
- 2 cloves of garlic
- A few drops red food colouring
For the bun.
Take a packet of instant ramen noodles follow the instructions on the packet. Soften the noodles and drain well.
Break and egg into a bowl and mix well. This will be used to hold the bun together.
Add the softened noodles with and seasoning you wish to add into the bowl and cover the noodles with the egg.
Make sure the egg coast all of the noodles. Take a ramekin or similar flat bottomed bowl. Line it with cling film.
Add half the noodles to the bowl then cover with the cling film.
Take a bowl or saucer that fits onto on the noodles and weight it down with a weight or a can.
Repeat this for the second half of the noodles and put in the fridge for 30 minutes.
Take a pan and add some oil. Turn the noodles out into the pan being careful not to get the cling film in the pan.
fry on each side for a minute. Set aside on some tissue paper the bun should now hold together.
Take your red pork and grill for 10-15 minutes or until done.
Add the pork to the bun and add any salad you like.
